During the 2022 Oscar ceremony . Highlight of Chris Rock and Smith matter.
During the 2022 Oscars ceremony, Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's physical appearance.
During the 2022 Oscars ceremony, an altercation arose between the winner of the statuette, Will Smith, and presenter Chris Rock, who during his speech at the gala made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Will's wife.
Rock made comments regarding several Hollywood actors. He first threw one to Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, present at the ceremony. The comedian said, “If she loses tonight, he can't win either. Javier is going to pray that Will Smith wins."
In the broadcast, Will and Jada are seen laughing after Chris's statement, who decided to continue in his comedy role. He immediately threw a 'joke' at Pinkett, whose tone escalated to another level.
“Jada, I love you. 'G.I. Jane 2′. I can't wait to see it," Rock said. However, the actress's reaction led to considerable annoyance and discomfort, since the parallelism that Chris made in his "joke" is supported by the character of a military woman (Demi Moore), from the movie G.I. Jane, who wears her head without hair in the fime. It should be noted that Jada suffers from alopecia and therefore she has currently decided to shave.
After finishing the comments regarding Pinkett's condition and noticing that she had not reciprocated the joke, on the contrary, she expressed an angry face and turned her eyes; Rock decided to move on to 'the next thing' in his speech to leave the unfortunate statement in the 'past'.
In one of the scenes after the presenter's intervention, the camera focuses on Smith, who did react to the joke with laughter; however, seeing Jada's anger, he decided to 'take action' on the matter.
\Will got up from his seat, walked to the stage and went over to the comedian to slap him in the face; Puzzled, Chris just stood as the actor walked back to him.
Once Smith sat down, he threatened Rock with the sentence: "Get my wife's name out of your fucking mouth." The only words the comedian said after the attack were “I can go now. That was... the best night in television history."
Minutes after the altercation, the protagonist of King Richard received the Oscar for Best Actor and made a speech in which he referred to not allowing abuse by others.
The actor did not take long to justify his role with his 'protective' behavior: "Love forces you to do crazy things and now the one who was left as the crazy dad was me... I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love, of care and concern”, he said during his participation.
He also apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees, but made no specific reference to the fact for which he apologized.
According to Variety, Chris Rock refused to file a police report after being slapped in the face by Will Smith at the Oscars.
According to the authorities' bulletin, the possibility of testifying regarding the incident will remain open: "If the party involved wishes a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete the investigation."
